current work: bonsall barns

Field barns in Bonsall, Derbyshire, stand as enduring symbols of the region's rural heritage. These iconic structures dot the picturesque landscape, serving as silent witnesses to centuries of agricultural practices. Built with local stone and traditional craftsmanship, field barns blend seamlessly into the rolling hills, their weathered walls a testament to the passage of time. From storing hay and sheltering livestock to providing a backdrop for the daily rhythms of farm life, these barns play a vital role in preserving Bonsall's farming legacy. As the seasons change, the field barns remain steadfast, their presence anchoring the community to its rich history and deep connection to the land.

Field barns are valuable historical structures in Bonsall, serving as tangible connections to the region's agricultural past. These barns, with their distinctive architectural features and rural charm, are essential in preserving the cultural heritage and landscape character of the area. As repositories of traditional farming practices and local knowledge, field barns play a crucial role in educating future generations about Bonsall's agricultural history and the symbiotic relationship between the land and its inhabitants. By safeguarding these buildings, we not only honor the hard work of past generations but also maintain a sense of continuity and identity for the community. Efforts to preserve field barns in Bonsall are integral to maintaining the area's unique character and fostering a deeper appreciation for its rich agricultural heritage.

In my current work I am exploring the simplicity of form in the field barns and how this can be manipulated further using my interest in utilising recycled packaging. I am developing ideas using folding and cutting into tetrapak prints to create the interplay between interior and exterior shape.
