school workshops

Visiting artists play a crucial role in the education of GCSE and A Level Art pupils, as they bring real-world perspectives and experiences directly into the classroom. These interactions offer students the opportunity to engage with professional artists, gain insights into the art world, and witness diverse artistic techniques firsthand. The presence of visiting artists fosters creativity, expands students' artistic horizons, and inspires them to push boundaries in their own work. Through workshops, demonstrations, and discussions, pupils can learn from practicing artists, receive valuable feedback on their projects, and develop a deeper appreciation for different art forms. Overall, having visiting artists in school or college enriches the educational experience, broadens students' artistic knowledge, and cultivates a passion for creativity that extends beyond the classroom.

To enhance their drawing skills through printmaking, pupils can explore various techniques such as relief printing, intaglio, and stencil printing. By experimenting with these methods, students can deepen their understanding of line, texture, and composition, which can directly impact their drawing abilities. Additionally, printmaking encourages learners to think in reverse and consider negative space, leading to improved spatial awareness in their artwork. Through the repetitive nature of printmaking, pupils can refine their techniques, increase their patience, and develop a more methodical approach to creating art. This process also allows for exploration of different materials and tools, fostering creativity and expanding their artistic horizons. Ultimately, incorporating printmaking into their practice can provide young artists with a unique perspective and skill set that will undoubtedly enrich their overall drawing capabilities.

When collaborating with an artist, pupils can foster the development of their ideas by engaging in open dialogue and active listening. By sharing their thoughts and visions with the artist, students can receive valuable input and suggestions that can inspire new directions for their projects. Actively participating in brainstorming sessions and sharing feedback can also help pupils refine their ideas and push the boundaries of their creativity. Moreover, observing the artist's techniques and creative process can offer invaluable insights and spark fresh ideas. Embracing experimentation and exploration, pupils can harness the collaboration with an artist as a dynamic platform for idea generation and artistic growth.

As an ex-Art teacher and current SEND teacher, I am able to tailor school workshops to a range of briefs, whether it is an artist research and practical task for A Level pupils or a hands-on printmaking summer school for KS3 pupils.
